2026: More to come about solar and my setup. I am dedicating 2026 to updating my site.

Lets talk about my home solar setup. I have a Grid-Tied 13.5KwAC 27 Panel Solar System on my house. I use Hoymiles HMS Microinverters and Longi High Density Solar Panels. I collect solar data from my panels via two ways. One is via CT Sensors on my Home Breaker panel. One on each 'phase*' of the NA Home Power System. The other is via Open DTU. This is an open source project that aims to let the ender user collect the sub 1Ghz radio data from the Hoymiles HMS Micro Inverters. This works amazing. I have it in my workspace and it just collects all the radio data off the Micro Inverters and sends it via MQTT on WiFi.

I will add some pictures soon. I don't have any batteries, as where I live the electrical code doesn't quite allow them in the home yet. I get asked if I need to clean the panels and the answer is, only in winter. I know in places where its hot and dry, dust builds up. Not here. The only thing I need to clean off is the large amounts of snow that block the panels in the winter. If the sun hits the dark panel, they'll heat up and most will just slide off. But I usually need to start it. I have a roof rake that doesn't damage panels/glass. I am able to pull down the first few feet of the snow from my roof and once the blue/black on the panels is exposed to the sun, the melting starts. Of course, this usually onyl works when its less than 30-40cm of snow, and its not below -10c.
